Saving My Life

Anything I post on here about PCOS or any other condition, is general information or information I've accumulated in my experience having PCOS or other conditions. I'm not a doctor, so nothing I say should EVER take place of a real diagnosis from your doctor. My eating plan described on this blog is one I've made for myself and I'm constantly changing it according to my body's needs.

1st Day of the "Quit"

I will blog about yesterday later b/c it will take me a little longer to do, but I still want to remind everybody today is Day 1 of quitting smoking for me. Since a month ago, I began taking Chantix and slowly my body has severed the physical addiction. Over time the amount of nicotine has lessened a whole lot as well. Today I made my official quit day. It's 1:30pm here and so far so good. Whenever I begin feeling tense or edgy, I've been taking long, deep breaths. I'm also distracting myself today by getting out with my kids. We're going to the store in a few minutes to pick up scrapbooking supplies for my daughter, so that should be fun. :) I think I may do this today as well. I'm going to begin spring cleaning as well. My house is a mess and I know I'll feel better once I get it back to it's natural state of being peaceful...and peaceful for me means clean. I've also got a mountain of laundry to fold and wash, so that'll occupy my hands as well. I plan on spending some time outside as well, although I'm gonna have to switch up where I go outside since certain places outside of my house remind me of smoking. I think I'll go pull weeds and finally get those grape vines/blueberry bush into the ground. So, this is me keeping myself accountable. So far I've lost almost 30lbs. and now I'm quitting smoking. These two things alone are monumental for me. I just have to make it stick.
I'll be back later. What fun things do you have planned for the weekend? I know...stupid question, but that's all I got. I know you guys will probably blog about what you do over the weekend. lol Anyway, see ya later.

  1. Wow that is great! Congratulations on losing 30 lbs. too :) It really inspires me to hear other people doing so well. I cannot imagine how great it feels to have accomplished so much. This weekend we have been doing a lot of Spring cleaning, it is so nice to let go of all the excess stuff - LOL, I guess that makes sense in a lot of ways :)

  2. Way to go Kim! And you are right to do anything different from the usual, because much of smoking is the routine...after meals, waking up, before bed, etc. You need to substitute something else each time you'd normally be having that smoke. I'm so proud of you!

  3. @So me--Yes, it makes sense in a LOT of ways. :)

@Kyle--Thanks so much. You just don't know how much I need the encouragement. It's a very hard thing for me to let go of...sounds ridiculous I know, but it just is. I hate it with every fiber of my being, but my body tries to tell me otherwise. lol. I'm still doing good...I almost forgot that I quit at one point. I was warming my lunch food and started walking in the direction of the backdoor. I thought,"Whoa girl!" and went to the computer instead. So, I'm doing good. I will continue to check in if I have hard moments, here in the comment section. I've conquered so many addictions...this one has to go too. I'm staying the course.

  4. Congratulations ! I quit a heavy smoking habit cold turkey on my own 25 yrs ago ( 3 packs a day for 16 years) . One thing I found to be extremely helpful when I got that antsy feeling was to pick up a drinking straw and hold it like a cigarette. After about a week I thought the straw looked really stupid, so I tossed it and never looked back. Extra activity also helps to retrain your brain so to speak. Keep up the good work !

  5. Good for you Kim, you are making an incredible choice! I quit smoking many years ago, then after four years started again... so quit yet again. The final time, and it will be the final time, I read a book by Allan Carr http://www.theeasywaytostopsmoking.com/books.aspx and it was amazing, it changes your mindset which made it really easy to stop. I also got it on mp3 to listen to chapters when in need. Anyway, sounds like you are on the right track with distraction and planning for success.
