Saving My Life

Anything I post on here about PCOS or any other condition, is general information or information I've accumulated in my experience having PCOS or other conditions. I'm not a doctor, so nothing I say should EVER take place of a real diagnosis from your doctor. My eating plan described on this blog is one I've made for myself and I'm constantly changing it according to my body's needs.

The Plan

Ok, so here's my strategy. This strategy will be tweeked and molded and changed over time to fit my needs, my family's needs, and my lifestyle. I am going for clean eating meaning whole foods. I'm going to avoid high-fructose corn syrup. I'm going to avoid foods with big words in the ingredient list and I'm avoiding food that has more than five or six ingredients on the package. I would like to say I'm going to cut sugar out all together, but in the past restricting myself totally has proven to be a bad strategy for my rebellious inner child. hehe. So, I'm going to shoot for not indulging too often. I'm going to eliminate soft drinks...and I'm ok with this b/c I'm not heavily addicted to them and it'll be ok. I am going to try to drink up to a gallon a day of water, herbal tea, and natural sparkling water. I am not an avid coffee drinker, but I do like it and will not eliminate it totally. I will be posting recipes that I already cook for my family, and I will be trying out recipes from all of the blogs I already follow (I promise I'll link recipes that I try out to your blogs).
Exercise. Man, I so do not have a great history with exercise. I'll be honest...I hate it. I hate my treadmill. I do not like the breathless feeling I get when exercising. I do like the high that is experienced afterward, but hate the boredom I experience while exercising. So, I'm going to experiment. I'm going to start out with 10 min. doing something I *like* to do...like dancing...or walking around my house outside. I will work up to several 10 min. increments a day of activity...and work up to longer bursts of activity. I will also be adding resistance exercises once my body is ok with being moved in the first place. :oP
If any of you have suggestions along the way, I will be soooo happy to hear them. I look forward to anything you have to offer. I love constructive criticism and I love new ideas...so bring it on. Day 1 begins tomorrow. See ya there. ;o)

  3. I have a workout room in my house with equipment, but I hate it soooo much. I wake up early in the morning to workout before work because I know myself and I'll find an excuse not to do it later in the day. So, I do manage to get it done in the morning, but it was like pulling teeth. I made it much easier for myself by putting a TV in there. I taped shows like "Biggest Loser" and got some movies where people are romping on the beach in bikinis and I play those while I workout. It inspires me, makes me feel less alone in the agony, and I have a timer and refuse to leave until it sounds off. Once done, the entire day is mine. I do feel an amazing high and each time afterwards I think it was the best thing I did all day, but come the next morning I'm still having to kick myself into the workout room. You never really look forward to it, but you feel great about it afterwards. I just focus on how warm and limber I fee the rest of the day. Good luck! I like your food plan. Sounds totally reasonable.

  5. I'm going to be encouraging. Don't say "I'm going to *really try* this time." Really *trying* is bullsh*t. Just do it. how's that for encouragement?
I'm with AutumnForest. Do the workout first thing. Start with 2 minutes. Next week add a minute. Each week add another minute. When I bought my elliptical and first got on it about a year ago (I think) (I'm trying to remember and I'm ancient). I could only do about 30 seconds on it before I passed out in a heap on the floor. I finally got (over a period of time) to where I could easily (and I would force myself to do this even though I say the word "easily", to do 30 minutes. That was after doing 5 minute increments throughout the day for weeks. Then 10, then 15. Now when I'm having a crappy day (which you can just imagine must be never), I go back to the 5 minute increments if I have to. Just do it, Kim. Don't try. Trying, is an excuse for incase you make the decision to give up and your health is mucho importante.

Don't make me come there, young lady! ;-)
